What should I expect at a Catholic Wedding Mass?
Attending a Catholic Wedding Mass for the first time can be a unique and beautiful experience. Here’s what to expect:
Sacred Atmosphere: The ceremony takes place in a church, often adorned with religious symbols and decor. Everyone is encouraged to dress modestly and respectfully.
Order of the Mass: The wedding is typically integrated into a full Catholic Mass, which lasts around an hour. It includes prayers, Bible readings, a homily (sermon), and the Eucharist (Communion).
Rituals and Traditions: The couple exchanges vows and rings before the priest, who blesses their union. You’ll also see some of the same rituals, the exchange of the sign of peace, and other blessings.
Participation: While only practicing Catholics may receive Communion, our non-Catholic friends and family are welcome to participate in the prayers, hymns, and gestures like standing, sitting, and kneeling. They may also come forward during communion and receive God's blessing.
Sacred Music: The ceremony will includes traditional hymns, adding to the solemnity of the occasion.
Overall, a Catholic Wedding Mass is a deeply spiritual and communal celebration, centered on the sacred vows of marriage within the context of our faith.
What should I wear?
While we have not set an official "dress code" for the occasion, we would like everyone in at least "cocktail" attire. This is an afternoon affair so no need for "formal black-tie", we suggest suits or sports coats for gentlemen and dresses or dressy separates for ladies. Please no jeans! Thank you
Where should I stay?
As many are already aware of, Ole Miss is hosting the University of Georgia on the same day as our wedding in a highly anticipated SEC football game. With this, the hotel availability in Northeast Mississippi will be very limited and we recommend anyone to make accommodations to do so as soon as possible. We are looking forward to seeing everyone soon!
Are kids invited?
Yes, if your little ones are listed on the invitation. Please RSVP for them. There will be some special activities at the reception for the children of our family.
Are there any colors guests should avoid wearing?
We kindly ask that you avoid colors traditionally reserved for the bride - whites, ivories, and creams.
When is the RSVP deadline?
Please RSVP no later than October 9th. This can be done using the "RSVP" tab on our website!
What time should I arrive?
We will celebrate Mass/the ceremony at 1 PM. Please arrive no later than 10 minutes prior.
What should I do if I cannot make it?
You will be missed! If you are unable to attend, please indicate your regrets on our "RSVP" tab so we can plan accordingly.
